Feb & Mar – Whale Watching It is possible to observe a subpopulation of humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) that come from the Northern Hemisphere along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.

Dec - Jun: Quetzal nesting season The resplendent quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno), known for its iridescent bluish green feathers and divine representation in indigenous folklore, can be spotted between December and June in Monteverde, Cerro de la Muerte and 5 national parks.

Motion in the Ocean: It’s breeding season for the giant humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) who migrate down the Pacific coast from the North Hemisphere in search of tropical waters from Dec. to March.

Audubon bird count: This annual count established by the National Audubon Society takes place from mid-December to the first week of January around the country. The goal is to monitor bird species and aid in their survival, while giving birdwatchers the opportunity to contribute to conservation.
